Gilles Martin

January 16, 1942 - April 4, 2014

On Friday April 4, 2014, Mr. Gilles Joseph Henri Martin of Osoyoos passed away at home peacefully after a short battle with cancer at the age of 72 years.

He was predeceased by his mother Yvonne; father William (Willy); brothers Adrian and Marcel; sister Terry and wife Judy;

Gilles (or commonly known as Huck to many friends and family) will be fondly remembered by his loving family including twin sons Corey (Michelle) and Steve (Jennifer); twin grandchildren Matthew and Melissa; brothers Roland (Pam), Albert (Nora), Lou (Terry) and Maurice (Donna); sisters Clare, Jeanette, Vivian and Rachel (Ray); sisters-in-law Laurette (widow of Adrian) and Sally (widow of Marcel); loving girlfriend Sherry as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Gilles worked for many years for Kelly Douglas. He loved family vacations in Osoyoos prior to living here. Gilles also greatly enjoyed spending several winters in Australia as well as vacations in Mexico, Hawaii, touring the coasts of Oregon and Washington and most recently Cuba. He also enjoyed the annual fishing trip with “the boys” for the past twelve years.

Gilles was an avid curler and golfer for several decades and enjoyed getting youth involved in the sports. Last year, Gilles won the Thursday men’s match play singles A championship cup at the Osoyoos Golf & Country Club. He played hockey and coached both men’s and children’s hockey.

Gilles loved and lived life to the fullest.

A celebration of Gilles life will be held between 1:00 – 4:00 P.M. Friday April 25, 2014 at the lower hall of the Our Lady of Fatima Church, 315 Walker Street, Coquitlam, BC.

From: Dick Moffat
Relation: Through golf and curling

Gil was one of the first fellows that welcomed me when I retired in Osoyoos three years ago. I appreciated how quickly he extended his hand in friendship and enjoyed our times together both golfing and curling. I will miss him. My caring thoughts to Gil’s family.
