Harry Peters
April 10, 1944 - November 17, 2023
Tribute
Harry was born on April 10, 1944 in Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1949 with his mother and six siblings.
He passed away peacefully on Nov 17, 2023, at 79 years old, surrounded by family at Moog and Friends Hospice House in Penticton after being diagnosed with cancer earlier in fall.
He grew up in Abbotsford on Sumas Prairie and after he married Irma (Janzen) in 1967 they had their first broiler farm there, near where he had grown up, on Powerhouse Road. They raised roasters first, then broilers there for 10 years while he still worked out full time. First at the Kilgard Pipe Plant, then at building supply stores, a glass shop, Hambley Hatchery and later Surrey Co Op Feeds.
In 1977 they purchased a larger broiler farm outside Yarrow on Majuba Hill and farmed there for 40 years until 2017 when they sold, retired and moved to Oliver in the Okanagan.
He had a desire to see the Panama Canal and Cuba, both of which they did and they also went to Hawaii and cruised to Alaska several times.
Harry is survived by his wife, three children, and six grandchildren. Kevin and daughters Morgan and Carsyn. Mynah and husband, Dean Keller and their three children, Jordana (Brandon), Dallas (Jessica) and Jakob. Carmen, husband Keith Hood and son Cooper.
Also surviving him are his two brothers, Cornelius and Helmut. Two sisters, Susie and Helen and 24 nieces and nephews.
Harry was predeceased by his mother, Katharina and two sisters, Katie Thiessen and Mary Zuest.
The family would like to thank Dr. Myslek and Dr. Bannerman, the palliative staff and volunteers in Oliver and at Moog and Friends Hospice House.
A private family Celebration of Life will be held in the weeks to come.
Rest in peace, Papa, we will take it from here.
