Hazel Dodd

August 19, 1913 - October 28, 2011

Tribute

Born Aug 19, 1913, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones Oct 28, 2011.
Born to Walter & Rebecca Wilson in Vancouver BC. Hazel had 4 siblings, Leonard, James,Valma and Russell, who all predeceased her.
Hazel met and married her love and our father Phillip Ronald Dodd whom she married in Nov of 1935. He predeceased her in May 1982. They began their marriage in Vancouver and produced 4 children. Ron (died Sept 2004) Maureen (died April 2006) Mike& Ralph. In the summer of 1946 on a visit to her brothers home in Osoyoos, she & Phil walked the property where the junior high school was, which was vacant at the time. While sitting watching the sunset they made the biggest decision of their lives, Osoyoos was to be the families new home. So they packed up the family, purchased a lake front home and settled in. In 1948 they were blessed with another child, Sharon. Hazel was a family woman, who lived for her children and grand children. She baked, canned and knitted up a storm as each grandchild arrived. Survived by Bob Faasse (Maureen), Robert & Cindy, Leonard & Violet, Lori, Brad & Marie Anne and Cheryl. Phyllis Dodd (Ron), Doug & Sherry, Dennis & Sandra, Walter & Janice. Mike & Nancy Dodd, Michael &Linda, Michele & Naomi. Ralph & Doreen Dodd, Russell & Claudette, Sheldon, and Nicole. Sharon & Mike Pearce, Melissa & Steve, Garett , Sheldon & Tammy, Stephanie and Brittany. Also 32 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grand children with one more on the way. Hazel was a true Matriarch, and loved her family unconditionally. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Mariposa Gardens where she had resided for the last 3 years, and the care staff that came into her home to care for her prior to her move. The happiness you brought her, the love, compassion and warmth is so greatly appreciated. It’s with a feeling of peace that Hazel felt safe and loved in your care, and loved you all in return. Also our heartfelt thanks to Sheila Cudworth, who was a cherished friend to Hazel since 2003, and also to Bernice who took Hazel under her wing. Rest in peace Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma and Great Great Grandma, you will be forever loved and will live on in our hearts. You leave behind a wonderful legacy.
A memorial service will be officiated by Rev. Stephen Hershey at 10:30 A.M. Nov. 5, 2011 at the Osoyoos United Church.
