Hedy Duller

July 21, 1934 - June 11, 2026

Tribute

On June 11, 2026, with her loving daughter by her side, Hedy Marie Duller of Oliver, British Columbia, passed away peacefully following a brief illness.

Hedy will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years, Simon Duller; her daughter, Susan Dacosta, and Susan’s children, Travis Rutherford, Tamara Nunes, and Tarla Flanders; her son, Andrew (Trish) Duller, and children, Trevor Duller, Matthew Duller, and Jason Duller; her cherished great-grandchildren, Nikolas, Juliana, Milo Nunes, Selah Flanders, and Owen and Charlotte Duller; as well as her beloved sister, Helen Salmon. She also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness and gentle spirit.

Born and raised in Ontario, Hedy built a life centered on family, hard work, and compassion. She worked at Eaton’s in Hamilton as an office clerk before serving as treasury clerk for the Township of King in Ontario. Following her retirement in 1992, she and Simon fulfilled a lifelong dream by relocating to Oliver, British Columbia, where they embraced the beauty and close-knit community of the South Okanagan. Hedy became an active member of the local art council and found great joy in expressing her creativity.

Hedy had a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures and the adventures it offered. She and Simon travelled extensively throughout Canada and abroad, creating treasured memories in Greece, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Alaska, and Mexico. Whether she was ten-pin bowling, cross-country skiing, hiking, reading a good book, tending her garden, painting, or caring for her beloved dogs and cats, Hedy approached every interest with enthusiasm and joy.

Above all else, Hedy treasured time spent with her family and friends. Her warm smile, gentle nature, generous heart, and love of dancing brought happiness to those around her. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome and cared for, and her quiet strength and unwavering love will remain an enduring source of comfort and inspiration to everyone who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Chapel, 5855 Hemlock Street, Oliver, British Columbia.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Hedy’s memory may be made to the BC SPCA or Critteraid Animal Sanctuary in Summerland, organizations that reflected her lifelong love of animals.

We are so sorry to hear about Hedy’s passing. She was one of our favourite customers — always positive and happy. And oh so proud of her family!

From: Barbara Sabyan

I’m so sorry to hear of, Hedy’s, passing. I met Hedy and Simon years ago when I was running daily along the hike and bike path. They always had a bag of goodies for the animals they might encounter along the way, which I loved! Hedy emanated the kind of goodness of nature that one couldn’t help but be drawn to. A heart of gold! She spoke of her daughter and grandchildren with joy and pride, and always updated me on the goings on of their lives. Though we didn’t really know one another very well, it was very evident that she was a very special lady…..you just felt it. Undoubtedly, her absence will be deeply felt by those who knew and loved her. Rest in peace, beautiful lady. I will miss our encounters.
