Helen Fisher
September 8, 1919 - October 31, 2017
Tribute
Helen Louise Fisher, aged 98, died peacefully on October 31, 2017 surrounded by the love and prayers, conversations and stories, and laughter of her family. Helen was born September 8, 1919 in New Dayton, Alberta, the daughter of George Whitesel and Jessie Wetherelt.
After completing school in southern Alberta, Helen moved with her family to Creston BC and later to New Westminster. It was while signing up for the Air Force in 1942 that Helen met her future husband Frank who was also signing up at this time. Helen was stationed in Ottawa where she was a private secretary in the Estates Department and Frank trained to be a pilot. Helen and Frank were married March 30, 1944 in Winnipeg and moved to Montreal where Helen could commute to Ottawa and Frank was based for his flights across the Atlantic.
After the war, Helen and Frank moved to Creston, BC where they raised their two daughters Bev and Dianne, and lived for 28 years. While in Creston, Helen worked as a Custom’s Broker and later as a legal secretary. She was always proud of the fact that she was the third licensed female Custom’s Broker in Canada.
Helen and Frank moved to Osoyoos in 1973 where they both continued to work before retirement. They spent many winters in their RV in Arizona, traveling and golfing with friends.
One of Helen’s greatest enjoyments was painting with her friends at the studio in Osoyoos. She loved living at White Sands, spending time with her friends and enjoying the ever-changing view that inspired her many paintings.
Helen’s greatest love was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Everyone had a special connection with their grandma and gran.
Helen’s passion for lifelong learning, her positive outlook, and her wisdom was apparent right till the end. She will be fondly remembered by many.
She is survived by her daughters Bev (Dan) and Dianne (Rob); her grandchildren Todd (Shannon), Stacey (Jaden), Jody (Donald), Jill (James), Nathan (Kaila), Ross (Kersten); her great-grandchildren Dylan, Dana, Cooper, Reece, and Mitchell; sister Jean as well as many nieces and nephews; her care giver Natalie, and her special friends at White Sands and the Gallery.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Osoyoos United Church on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 2:00 PM.

Helen will always have a special place in my heart, as she was a kind, happy, positive, strong, and loving friend and role model. My heart is with Bev and Dianne and their families, as they adjust to life without Helen. May Helen rest in peace and continue her art and paint her Heaven. ❤️

Relation: Helen and I painted together in the Artists On Main Studio for the last 30ish years.
Helen was a loving friend, a great listener and a very motivated artist. In our Studio 89 she greeted friends and newcomers in a kind and interested manner and it validated us as respected people and artists. She contributed wisely to our conversations and never spoke disrespectfully of anyone. She remembered names and vocabulary when we younger persons were at a loss. Her love of her early life history came out in many paintings and also her joy of family. She painted 3 days a week with the eagerness of a teenager. May the rest of us be so lucky! Helen met my Mom who lived to be 98 and Helen told me she was going to live as long as Sadie, and she did. We’ll miss you Helen! Love from Sandra and Jerry Albo
