Tribute

On April 11, 2012, Helen Mary Lippa passed away peacefully at Mariposa Gardens, Osoyoos, BC at the age of 95 years. She was predeceased by her husband Medoro (Matt) Lippa, two sisters, and seven brothers. Helen and Matt moved to Osoyoos in 1944, proud pioneers of a thriving community.

Helen will be lovingly remembered by her her daughter Josephine Mathews, sons Leonard (Jane), Richard (Norma), and Clifford (Cathy), , her eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, her sisters Violet Bosa and Josie Connah, and her many nieces and nephews.

She was employed at the Osoyoos Co-op, the SuperValu meat department, and Osoyoos Hardware for many years. She operated her own fish and chip takeout where she also sold her very popular pizzas. Everything sold out quickly – she couldn’t keep up!

Helen was known far and wide for her amazing ability in the kitchen. She was well-known for her spaghetti dinners, and catered to many wedding receptions and fund raising dinners in and around Osoyoos.
For years she was an active member of St. Anne’s Church and the Catholic Women’s League. She was also a charter member of the Osoyoos Royal Purple.

Helen dearly loved her family and especially enjoyed her grand children and great-grandchildren. She was happiest when her family and friends were gathered around her dining table, enjoying an Italian dinner and lively conversation.
Helen’s past few years were spent at Mariposa Gardens. She was always happy there due to the wonderful care she received from the care aides, so greatly appreciated by her family.
A memorial mass will be held on Monday, April 30 ,at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, with Fr. Dave De Souza officiating.
