Tribute

Helena (Lena) Margaret Cannon (nee Hill) passed away peacefully at Hardy View Lodge, Grand Forks, BC on December 30, 2010 after a weeks stay with wonderful care.
Lena was born in St. Helens, England on February 9, 1910 to parents Thomas and Elizabeth Hill. She immigrated with her parents and older brother Frank to Vancouver in 1912. Lena lived in the Collinwood area of Vancouver with her family which now included a younger sister Eileen, until her marriage in 1936 to William (Bill) Cannon. In 1937, Bill and Lena moved to Nanaimo, where both their sons were born. In 1954, the family became rovers. In 1954 to 1958 they lived in Field, Revelstoke, Carmi, Beaverdell and they finally settled in Rock Creek. Lena lost Bill after 55 years of marriage. At age 85, she could no longer drive as her eyesight was compromised, so she moved to Osoyoos where she could walk and shop independently. When Parkview Manor opened in 2001in Midway, she was one of the first residents.
Lena was an active member of her communities. She became a life member of the Kettle River Order of the Royal Purple and the Rock Creek Fair Association.
She was predeceased by her brother Frank; her husband Bill and sister Eileen. Lena will be fondly remembered sons Thomas (Tom) Cannon of Richmond Hill, ON, Frank Edward (Ted) Cannon and wife Mary of Rock Creek; grandchildren Marsha (David) Houlahan of Smith Falls, ON, Cheryl (John) Cannon of Keswick, ON and Joanne (Al) de Paulsen of Mt Albert, ON, Steve Cannon of Rock Creek (Erin Madsen of N. Vancouver) and Barb (Harley) Stewart of Rock Creek; seven great-grandchildren, AJ, Kerry, Emma, William, Bailey, Emily and Harley; her sister-in-law May Cannon; her brother-in-law John Cannon as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
A Celebration of Life was held at Parkview Manor on January 5, 2011, with many family and friends attending. Her cremains now rest with Bill in the Rock Creek Cemetery. She will be missed.
