Henry Plummer

Date of Death: July 12, 2018

Tribute

Henry Edward Mayes Plummer passed away after a battle with cancer on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at the age of 87 years.

He is predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Sadie Ksenia Plummer, his father, and his mother.

He will be fondly remembered by his daughter Deborah, son Wayne, grandson Jim, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ed was born in Spirit River, AB and attended school at Rycroft. He married Sadie in 1952.  He started out working for the Northern Alberta Railway and then for the Canadian National as a fireman on steam engines. He left the railroad briefly to serve in the Royal Canadian Air Force for two years and rejoined the CNR in Kamloops, BC in 1958.  He worked for the railroad in Kamloops, then in Smithers for two years and then back in Kamloops again. He made his way up to become the engineer, or as they were called in the railroad a “hog head”. After he retired, he and Sadie moved to Osoyoos in 1991, where he took up amateur radio. This was a hobby he had been interested in since he was a young man. He was a charter member of the Oliver Amateur Radio Club and helped out over the years in a number of capacities. He was also the volunteer emergency coordinator for the Osoyoos and Oliver area for the Provincial Emergency Preparedness Program, for a number of years.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Osoyoos Lakeview Cemetery.

Deborah, Wayne and Jim. So sorry to hear of Ed’s passing. It was a pleasure to know your dad and mom. Ward worked at the railway with your dad and we got to know Sadie over their years here in Grande Prairie. We still own the house they had here. He always came to visit when he travelled up this way. Of course the railway was always the first conversation. He was so proud of his radio hobby and his volunteer work with it. Our condolences to all.

From: Carlos Antuna
Relation: Amateur Radio Friend

Debbie, our warmest thoughts to you and your family. We will remember his kind service and assistance to our radio community. Ed’s voice will be missed on the air.
