Tribute
On Tuesday, April 16, 2019, Mr. Horst Rode of Oliver passed away unexpectedly at the Penticton Regional Hospital at the age of 79 years.
Horst will be fondly remembered by his loving partner Margarete Kalil of 15 years; his only daughter Monika Boehmer (Lorne); grandsons Jason (Heidi), Royce and Cody and great-grandchild Callen.
Horst owned and operated his own Mercedes repair shop “Gold Star” in Surrey, BC for 52 years.
During his retirement he worked at Burrowing Owl doing maintenance for four years.
Horst was on the board of directors for the Abbotsford Air Show for 20 years and was a member of North Shore Search and Rescue while living in Vancouver.
He flew his float plane to many lakes throughout BC for thirteen years, spent fifteen years as a winter snowbird in Yuma, Arizona and many trips to Hawaii and Germany. Horst enjoyed having horses, hunting, fishing, car racing, making wooden bowls in a workshop in Yuma, gardening, archery, boating, spending time in nature and flying his airplane.
He won accolades for dedicated service at the Abbotsford Air Show, car racing and riflery.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Margarete wishes to thank all the doctors and nurses in the Emergency department at South Okanagan General Hospital and for the care that was administered in both the Emergency and ICU departments at the Penticton Regional Hospital.
