Ilene Purdon

Tribute
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Ilene Isobel Purdon (nee Beadle) on June 22, 2021, at the age of 89.
Ilene was predeceased by her husband Arthur Donald Purdon, parents Charles and Isobel Beadle, her brother Ron Beadle and sister Beverley Gaudette.
She will be lovingly remembered by her brother Don Beadle, daughters Julie Bartley (Blair), Linda Chamberlayne (Bruce), Carol Jeffrey (Glenn) and sons Don Purdon (Lynn) and David Purdon (Shelley), as well as 18 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
Ilene was born on February 26, 1932 and raised in New Westminster. She married the love of her life in 1952 and they had 62 years together and raised 5 children. She was an outstanding homemaker who filled her home with love and the delicious smells of fresh bread, granola, vegetables from her garden and canned fruit. Ilene loved to sing, play the guitar and lead music in her church and around the campfire. Her ready smile and infectious laugh welcomed family, friends and strangers. At 87 she was still flipping cheese sandwiches and making conversation with the homeless through her church in downtown Kelowna. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her, but she left us with many precious memories.

I enjoyed working alongside Ilene at Kelowna First United Church. She was a cheerful and optimistic person and will be greatly missed.

Ilene will be travelling again with Art, looking for new adventures together. A lovely thought thinking them of being together once again. Sympathies to the family who will have some great stories to revisit often.

All my love goes out to my wonderful cousins as I think today of your lovely mom. Didn’t we have fun camping together and celebrating other holidays and special occasions? Your mom was always there smiling, making food, singing and with her guitar. And of course her famous peach pie! we always knew when we camped at haynes point as adults that she would walk down to “do the loop” and welcome us. And invite us for a spectacular feast at the end of the holiday – so appreciated! As the generations grew up, she welcomed my children too. We shall all miss her but these special memories will never be taken away. Such a kind and loving soul. We love you Aunty Ilene! xxxooo
