Tribute

Iona Lily Bennett (Lainchbury) born Nov. 11, 1929 – died Sept. 18, 2009 at age 80. Having fought cancer for six years, she remained steadfast and strong with a remarkable sense of humour throughout. Iona is survived by her devoted and loving husband Don and her three loving sons Ken, Barry, and Kerry, her four grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and great-grandson. Iona loved life and the joys of gardening and kept a colourful display of flowers around her yard every year. She enjoyed the birds she attracted to her feeders and could entice her hummingbirds to land on her fingers. Iona was a fantastic baker and always had a selection of delectable treats for family and friends. Don and Iona spent many months each year travelling BC in their “fifth wheel” and completed an entire trip across Canada and the western U.S.

As the sixth child of nine, Iona was always in touch and supported by her brothers and sisters. She was predeceased by Alfred, Isabel, Thelma, and is survived by Louise, Elwin, Albert, Walter and Margaret. Iona provided a legacy of love and passion for her family having spent many hours painstakingly, researching and making a “family tree” dating back to 1500.

The Bennett family would like to especially thank the doctors, nurses and support staff at South Okanagan and Penticton General Hospitals for their sincere and loving care they provided.
