Jack Demorest

November 4, 1931 - August 28, 2016

Tribute

Peacefully with family by his side, we lost our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather Jack Demorest on Sunday, August 28, 2016.

Jack was born on November 4, 1931 in Rosetown Saskatchewan to Jeanette and Arthur Demorest.  He lived in McGrath, Wetaskawin, Creston, Calgary and finally Oliver.  Jack was predeceased by his parents and all his siblings Wilma, Vona and Shirley.

Jack worked at the Coop in Creston before joining the Army in 1951.  He served 2 years in Germany and 1 year in Korea.  He was a tank gunnery instructor and served as a Corporal.  He left the Royal Canadian Dragoons and started his career as a butcher at Safeway in Calgary.  In 1967 he moved to Oliver and worked at Coy’s Meats and later purchased the business where he continued as a butcher until his retirement.

Jack met the love of his life, Trudy and finally married her on April 12, 1975.  He was a brave man taking on three pre-teen/teenage daughters Shirley, Janette (Bruce) and Trish (Dave) who loved him dearly.  He had many amazing grandchildren David (Erica), Jon, Ben, Dwayne (Bryanna), Tania, Mike, Brianna (John), and Alicia as well as three great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his grandson Phil and great-granddaughter, Chloe.

Jack loved baseball and coached little league in his younger years.  He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion and an avid golfer for several years (making a hole in one at Cherry Grove many years ago).

Jack was loved by many and was always telling his favourite jokes, often laughing so hard before the punch line he could barely finish.

Special thanks to Dr. Mark Hamilton for his care of Jack over several years, Lisa and Ashley the Palliative Care Nurses, Desert Valley Hospice Volunteers, Pastor Ken and Janice Clarke for their many visits and ongoing support, as well as the many friends, church family and the Royal Canadian Legion.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday September 8, 2016 at Valley Congregational Church.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Desert Valley Hospice Society, Po Box 1261, Oliver, BC V0H 1T0 or Highway to Healing, Po Box 905, Oliver, BC V0H 1T0 are gratefully accepted.

Dearest Shirley, Trudy, Janette, Trish & Families.
I don’t even know where to begin telling you how sorry I am for the loss of Jack. When I lost my dad I couldn’t imagine a world without him and I feel the same way about Jack. Whenever I think back to all the times I spent at your home the first thing that comes to mind is how much my sides would hurt from laughing and your home was always full of laughter. My heart is hurting for your loss and know that I will always have fond memories of Jack. You are all in my thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time.
Love always and forever, Marlene & Terry.
