Jacqueline (Jacquie) Bicknell

March 13, 1952 - July 24, 2026

Tribute

On July 24th 2026, Jacquie Bicknell (nee Unwin) passed peacefully at the age of 74, after a long battle with early-onset dementia.

Jacquie will be deeply missed by her husband Len; children: Barb (Wayne), Stephen (Trish), Shawna (Conor) and Rachel; grandchildren: Blayne, Taylor, Tyson, Talynn, Levi, Keira, Walker, Lenayah, Weslynn, Eliah, and Dawson; great-grandchildren: Carson, Charlie and Cooper; Siblings: Bill and Betty; and many family and friends

Jacquie was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. The youngest of three siblings, she had a heart of gold, never kept her room clean and loved to dance and perform.

Jacquie was active in Job’s Daughters and was also Miss Hastings in her teenage years.

After graduating high school, she got a job at the National Film Board and became a curator there.

In 1972, she married the love of her life, Len. They moved to Oliver to start a life and had four kids. She worked at the Oliver Chronicle, the Oliver library, the optometrist’s office and the doctor’s office. She was always active in her church, and her faith was the core of who she was.

She was a writer who loved a punny joke, a scrapbooker/collector of scrapbooking materials, a talented seamstress, and an active volunteer in the community.  If you stopped by her house, you would always be invited in for a tea.

She loved a fancy hat and enjoyed being in the Red Hat Club, where they would eat dessert first.

Jacquie will be remembered for always forgetting she put the kettle on, giggling at her own jokes, her affinity for always helping others, and her positivity and kindness – which lasted up until her last days.

The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Mariposa Gardens Care Home for their genuine care of Jacquie over the past 5 years.
