Jim Linton

January 21, 1948 - July 18, 2017

Tribute

On Tuesday July 18, Jim Linton passed away peacefully at home after a 2 year struggle with cancer. He stayed strong for his family and friends right to the end, never losing his generosity or sense of humour.

He will be fondly remembered by his loving family including his wife Pat, daughters Beth (Toronto) and Maggie (Kelowna), grandchildren Dylan and Hewitt and his best buddy Dexter.  He was predeceased by his mother, father, sister and brother.

Born in Galt Ontario, BC seemed to be calling his name and in 1981 he moved west with his young family and settled in Oliver.  A man of many talents and interests he pursued several careers – recreation, aluminum siding, construction, farming, insurance, landscaping and bob cat services, to name a few.  His interests were many including hunting, fishing, golfing, curling, cycling, skiing/snowboarding and motorcycles. His last passion was carving – a talent that had lain dormant but flourished in his last few years which brought him and others much pleasure.  Jim was always open to new experiences and challenges and as a result his bucket list was always growing.

The family would like to thank the medical communities of Kelowna (surgical team), and Penticton (oncology doctors and nurses) and the Oliver doctors, nurses and pharmacists.  He could not have asked for better care. Thanks to Dr. Entwistle and the palliative care nurses Lisa and Ashley for their compassion and concern.

Heartfelt thanks to John and Daryn (Nunes & Pottinger) for their sensitive guidance.

A very, very special thank you to Dave & Janet Shaw – your generousity knows no bounds.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of your choice.

Family and friends are encouraged to drop by the house on Saturday, July 22 between  1 and  5 to  celebrate Jim’s life.

Condolences and tributes may be directed to the family by visiting www.nunes-pottinger.com

We are so sorry to hear this news. Our condolences to you and your family Pat. Jim will be missed by so many – we loved his quick wit and zest for life. I
remember him being so proud when he got his motorcycle and was looking forward to his adventurous trip. A very good, fair man, loved by many. We appreciated his caring and concern for all his tenants at the 4-plex and enjoyed seeing him regularly when we lived there. We are so sorry for your loss.

Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew him. We loved his great smile, humor and kindness. He is an inspiration to all who knew him. His spirit had such strength and compassion for his family. Hugs to Pat, Beth, Maggie, Dylan, Hewitt and of course his best little buddy Dexter. We will miss him terribly.

Dear Pat, Maggie and Beth,
This poem provided some comfort when mom died; I wanted to share it with you.

Gone from my sight- Henry Van Dyke

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says, “There, she is gone”

Gone where?

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me — not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, “There, she is gone,” there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, “Here she comes!”

And that is dying…

Dear Pat and family, the family of Art Holland send their thoughts and prayers to you all at this difficult time, my Dad spoke of Jim often to us and thought so much of Jim, Jim was always there for Dad when needed, Dad enjoyed the drives Jim took him on and enjoyed their talks when Jim would stop by. We were all very thankful Dad had such a good friend in Jim.

Pat, we were so very sorry to hear that you lost your life long companion, Jim. He fought the good fight. Sending our sympathy and prayers. Sorry to have missed the service, we were out of town.

Jim led an interesting life- meeting any varied challenges and thus developed a wide circle of friends. Jim and Pat’s property along the bike path was a prime example of preserving nature, and share it with others. They made us very welcome to just sit by their pond, bench provided, waiting for just the right shot of the many turtles swimming and playing on the logs in the pond.
Jim grew the best corn you ever tasted, we were always sad when the corn season was over. Sorry we were unable to attend the Celebration of Jim’s life due to the effects of our medications. Jim’s life was cut too short, but it was packed full of goodness, and thus lots of memories for you Pat, all your family and for Oliver.

From: Audrey and Mark SIlbernagel
Relation: Community friends/work

We were so sorry to learn of Jim’s passing, and your loss. Mark has memories of working with Jim years ago at the Test Orchard, and of Jim’s bobcat work on our property. Our condolences to you and your family.
