Tribute

On Thursday September 18th, Joseph Kirs passed away peacefully at the South Okanagan General Hospital with family by his side at the age of 70 years.

He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Rose as well as his brother Andrew.

Joe will be sadly missed by his loving wife Eva; children, Shelley, Ann (Tom) and Michael (Jocelyn); grandchildren Adain, Ashley, Shawn, Lane and Chase as well as his sisters Margaret (Dave), Dorothy (Gerry) and Elsie; sisters-in-law Liz, and Mary; brother-in-law Bill and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Joe was born in Whitewood Saskatchewan in 1943, moved with his family to Oliver in 1946 and graduated from S.O.H.S. in 1963.

Joe and Eva married on March 30, 1968 and together raised three children.

Over the years Joe worked for Bleasdale Ford, Sun Rype, Malmberg & Sons Trucking and Rotheisler Equipment, but ultimately his passion was farming which he enjoyed until his passing.

His memberships included The Royal Canadian Legion and the Oliver Fire Protection District for over forty years, Okanagan Hungarian Club and the Oliver Sportsmen Association.

Joe loved fishing (especially Clifford Lake), camping, hunting, teaching his grandchildren and spending time with family.

He will be fondly remembered for his kind heart, good nature, sense of humour and helping hands.

Funeral service will be held on Friday September 26th at 10:30 a.m. at the Oliver United Church. Interment will follow in the Oliver cemetery with a reception afterwards in the Legion hall.

Dear Eva and kids, Margaret and Dave- what a shocker to see Joe’s picture on this site. We started out in school together in the old primary school and he was a good friend for so many years. No one could ever say anything bad about Joe, except that he worked far too hard. But he loved his farming despite our mutual complaining, he was a great mechanic, and though I didn’t have to live with him Eva, I think he was a good husband and friend. He will be missed buy all of us- fly on home my old friend- love and best wishes to all of you.. Jim

Dear Eva and family. I wish to send my heartfelt condolences about your recent loss of Joe. He was always my favorite guy, from the time I was small he always made me laugh and he loved to make me blush. He really was a gentle sole and I will miss him as you all will. It has been years since I have seen you all but I was lucky enough to see Joe just last year. Eva take care of yourself and your family. Again sorry for your loss.
