Tribute
After a lifetime of being late for almost everything, Joe left us too early. Joseph (Joe) Charles McKay unexpectedly passed away in his home on January 3rd, 2015, at the age of 62. He was found resting in his favourite chair with a book beside him.
Predeceased by his parents, Joe & Pat McKay, and his daughter Emily, Joe leaves behind his daughter Erika McKay, her mother, Joe’s friend & former wife, Ivonne McKay, his brothers Mike, Dan & Jim McKay (Theresa) and his sister Trish (Cal) Craik. Joe had many cousins, and was cherished “unca Joe” to all his nieces and nephews.
He grew up in Burnaby & graduated from Burnaby North Sr Secondary. He spent his life working as an electrician for such companies as Neon Products, West Bay & Eckert Electric, and was always willing to do a favour for a friend or relative with wiring woes.
Joe had an almost unending list of interests and hobbies. For a time he was an avid outdoorsman who frequently took to the “wild” for camping, fishing and canoeing. He made beautiful stained-glass lamps, mirrors and decorations, he bottled his own wine, enjoyed gardening, was a master puzzle-solver and a voracious reader – he couldn’t pass by a bookstore without perusing the sci-fi section. His stories, photos, and piano playing will be remembered fondly by many.
Joe was an intelligent, funny, gentle and loving man. We didn’t have him long enough, but he has left us with countless memories. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday January 10th, 2015 at Nunes-Pottinger funeral home in Oliver, BC.

Relation: The McKays lived across the street from us when we were all young kids. I've know Joe for 50 years.
I have wonderful memories of Joe as we all grew up together. Great memories of concerts, huge groups of us going to drive in movies, some of us hiding in the trunk of course so that we could get in free. Lots of
evenings playing cards, listening to music and most of all, lots of laughter. Joey was a gentle, sweet guy with a ready smile and lots of love in his heart for family & friends. We didn’t see each other much in our adult lives but I always considered him a lifelongfriend and knew with certainty that if I ever needed anything he’d be there. I will always have a special place in my heart for you Joey and I will miss you.

Our hearts go out to Erika and Joe’s family on his sudden passing away.
Due to illness we are unable to attend his service.
Joe was an intelligent, gentle man, I spent many good times with him
fishing and camping, playing pool (what a great player) many years ago. Rest in peace Joe.
