John (Rod) Roderick Foley
August 20, 1944 - May 24, 2026
Tribute
John Roderick Foley, 81, of Oliver, BC, passed away on May 24, 2026.
He was born on August 20, 1944, in Westville, Nova Scotia, to Elizabeth and William Foley and had three brothers and a sister.
Rod spent time in the US Army in the 12th Cavalry Regiment as a medic and was involved in the Vietnam War, where he earned his parachutist badge, Vietnam service medal, and a combat medical badge. As a Canadian, he was very proud to have received a Silver Star for bravery. Upon returning from his time in the US Army, he reunited with the love of his life, Geraldine, started a family, and moved from Quebec to British Columbia, where he started his career with Canadian Airlines, and later retired.
Beyond his career, he found joy in spending time with his family and his other love, motorcycles. Through this hobby, he travelled across North America, meeting new friends and winning longest distance awards. His passion for motorcycles eventually led him to the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club, where he proudly spent time as the Club President for Washington State.
Rod was especially known for his sense of humour, love of animals and love for his family. Traits that have all been carried over to his children. He is survived by Geri, his two boys, their spouses and his two grandchildren.
Above all, Rod will be remembered as a kind, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the love he gave.
At his request, a service will not be held; a celebration of life may be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your local SPCA, if desired.

Relation: Neighbours
Katherine and I send Geri and Rod and Geri’s family all our love. Our condolences on your loss. They were our neighbours for almost 22 years. Rod was so encouraging when we started building our house. Loved knowing about their dogs and looked for the Llamas in the lower paddock when we drove past. He loved the fact Katherine and I commuted to work on our motorbikes. We will miss him.
