John (Jack) Minor

May 25, 1926 - April 16, 2015

Tribute

We are sad to announce the death of a fine man. Jack passed away in Oliver in the early morning hours of April 16th, with his wife at his side. He was 88 years old. Jack had been suffering with health issues for several years, and although he still had a tremendous will to live, he finally just got too tired to go on. He was predeceased by his first wife Connie, his parents Bessie and Albert, and his niece Carol.

He leaves behind his wife Pamela and his daughter Delaney. He is also survived by brothers Wallace, Laurie (Jean), Jim (Jo-Anne), and sister Janet. He was thought of fondly by many nieces and nephews and all of his in-laws.

Jack was born on the family farm on May 25, 1926, in South River, Ontario. He studied in a one room schoolhouse not far from his home. He helped out at home by milking the cows and chopping wood every day. As a young man he worked as a lumberjack and served briefly in the military. He and Connie lived in lots of places and had many great years together. Jack spent 35 years in the Pulp Mill industry and retired from the Northwood Mill in Prince George as the Mill Manager.

Life changed for Jack after he moved to the Oliver area and raised cattle on a small ranch. Every cow had a name. Animals were attracted to his gentle nature. He loved his Belgian horses and his cat, Thomas. Pamela was his best friend and devoted companion for more than twenty years. He became a Father for the first time late in life. He spent a lot of time with his daughter and attended every dance recital and every soccer game. Delaney adored her daddy.

Jack enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, cutting wood, reading his Westerns, and sharing stories with the Cowboys. He was involved in the naturalist society and served on the board for Community Futures for many years. He was a generous man with both his time and his money. He made many friends and the world will miss him.

He loved apple pie.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, April 26th at the Oliver Alliance Church. Reception to follow at the church.
