Tribute

John “Jack” Park 1921 – 2009

Passed away peacefully October 8, 2009, at the age of 88. Born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Jack studied law at the University of Alberta and served as a lieutenant in the Canadian Navy during World War II. A partner in Milner Steer, he pioneered the firm’s early oil and gas practice in Calgary. He also served with the national executive of the John Howard Society. He and his wonderful wife Edith spent many happy retirement years in their orchard in Summerland, as well as travelling to Europe and Japan. Predeceased by Edith (nee Fleming) in 2003, he moved to Oliver where he carried on admirably, both at Heritage House and at McKinney Place, until failing health caught up with him. He will be remembered with great affection by his children Anne Park Shannon of Victoria, John (Denise Kitson) of Summerland, and Bob (Brita) Park of Oliver, his grandsons Brian and Andrew, and members of the extended Park, Kitson and Mundel families. A lover of gardens and history; bright mind, glad heart, a kind and generous spirit–now sadly missed by all who knew him.

From: Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Service Staff

Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Service Staff send our condolences to family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

From: Marion Boyd
Relation: Friend of Bob & Brita

It was strange to see and talk with both of you, Bob & Brita, so recently and then to come home from Thanksgiving in Victoria to see in the paper that Jack had passed away. He was a fortunate man to have such caring family at his side and I was grateful that you could be with him to the end. Although I barely knew Jack, I felt as if I did through the stories you passed on to me. Know that you are held in sympathy and prayer at this time of loss. Love Marion

From: Lena Thompson
Relation: Nurse Aide at McKinney Place

I want to send my condolences to Jack’s family. I worked with Jack while he spent his days at McKinney Place. He was such a kind, smart man that would often tell me of his stories. He would remind me to call him Jack while I called him John all the time. He even told me that he knew a little portuguese. I will miss him and the rest of the staff.

God Bless, Lena Thompson
