John Stew Pomeroy

August 21, 1928 - October 10, 2011

Tribute

With great sadness we announce Stew’s passing on Oct. 10, 2011. Stew was born August 21, 1928 in Gainsborough, Saskatchewan. Stew will be sadly missed by his wife, Barbara of 43 years. He also leaves behind three nephews: Jim (Diane), John (Rebecca), Allen (Amanda)and two nieces: Janet (Harold) and Holly (Ken) and a lifetime of friends. He was predeceasedby his three brothers: William (Bill), Jerry and Forbes. Fresh out of high school Stew played drums in a traveling dance band. He loved the big bands. Finding a job after that was tough; he even resorted to selling encyclopedias door-to-door. In the early 50”s he got a job stringing telephone lines along the Alaska Highway. He worked up north for about 3 years and decided that was not what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. So he
enrolled in the refrigeration program at what is now known as SAIT (Calgary). Upon graduation he hired in with Trane Company working for them for 15 years, first as service manager for Calgary and Vancouver, then in sales in Vancouver and then in Windsor, ON. When he moved back west, with his new wife, he changed occupations. He studied and received his real estate license at RIBC in 1971. In 1976 they moved to near Portland, Oregon where he sold home remodelling. In 1981 they moved back to Canada, to Calgary where he worked in water treatment in commercial buildings. In 1991 they moved back to their home in Oregon and then in 1996 moved to Oliver. Stews passions included remodelling homes and collecting all things old. He collected license plates and has a nice collection of his birth year of 1928. Stew loved the wind in his hair, convertibles and later motorcycles made him happy. Stew had several older BMW motorcycles. He belonged to three motorcycle clubs and enjoyed traveling to rallies and visiting with friends. He had many interesting tales to tell of his time in the north country.
Notice will be given in the spring for a celebration of life.
