John Stoneberg

December 29, 1937 - September 15, 2016

Tribute

It is with great sadness that we announce John’s passing, after a very long and courageous

battle with two primary cancers. He was predeceased by his parents and first wife, of 49 years,

Josephine (Burgart)

Grieving are his children, JoAnn, Calgary, Shelley (Louis) Mission, BC and Ian (Lynn) Houston,

Texas. Plus six wonderful grandchildren. Shawn, Ryan, and Kyle Stoneberg of Houston, Texas and Erik, (Wales, U.K.), Elizabeth (Calgary) and Alex (Mission) Janze.

John’s second wife, Carol Wilson of Oliver, who made this journey through cancer, as his

constant companion and loving caregiver and her family are all clearly missing him. James

(Cheryl) Edmonton, Derek (Kimiko) Kelowna and two beautiful step grand daughters

Eimi (10yrs) and Ayana (8 Yrs) Kelowna. Also left to grieve is John’s brother, and best friend,

Ron and his wife Rose and their family in Montana, USA. and Mody and Allan Burgart of

Kaleden, who both offered constant support and love. As well as many friends far and near.

John was born in Vancouver, BC and as a youngster moved to Burnaby, where he took all of

his schooling. In 1959, he joined the RCMP and spent 20 years in a career he was very proud to

serve. During these years there were many moves across Canada and many friendships begun.

A career as a store owner in Banff, AB followed, which brought with it many challenging and

exciting learning experiences.

In 1999, John moved to Kaleden, BC and settled into the golf course community of St Andrews.

A move from here to Oliver followed, and as an avid reader and listener of jazz, he derived

much pleasure from long hours spent in his library, surrounded by his large collection of books

and records. John always enjoyed living life to its fullest. He golfed, curled, skied, played his

saxophone, attended jazz concerts and was known to enjoy a wee nip, or two, of a good single

malt scotch.

John wishes to thank the many doctors and nurses he got to know in the Oliver, Penticton, and

Kelowna hospitals. With very special thanks to his family doctor; Dr Kooy and the lovely Hanna.

As well as Dr Wadhua and Dr Petrik, Oncologists, at the Kelowna Cancer Clinic.

As per John’s request there will be no service following his cremation and his ashes will be

scattered at a later date. John asks, that should you wish, a donation to the Canadian Cancer

Society be considered in lieu of flowers.
