Jose Chaves

Tribute
On Tuesday January 3, 2017, Mr. Jose Leandres Chaves of Osoyoos passed away peacefully after a long illness at Mariposa Gardens at the age of 94 years.
He was predeceased by his parents Bernardino Sousa Chaves and Umbellina Sousa Leandres; sisters Emilia Freitas and Maria Freitas; brothers Angelo Leandres Chaves, Manuel Leandres Chaves, Agostinho Leandres Chaves, Antonio Leandres Chaves and Joao Leandres Chaves and his son Tony Chaves in 1999.
Jose will be fondly remembered by his wife Ines of 69 years; daughters Aida (John) Dorosz and Belmira (Carlos) Mota; son Michael (Deanna) Chaves; daughter-in-law Deolinda Chaves; granddaughters Sabrina, Sara Ashlee and Nicole; grandsons Gary, Robert and Terry; great-granddaughters Kelsea, Kaelee, Yazmine, Jayda and Sabella; great-grandsons Ryan and Jaxson; sister Helena Sousa; brother Jose-Maria Chaves as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Jose emigrated to Canada in 1957 and worked for CNN when he first came to Canada before working at a local packinghouse. Jose purchased and operated his own orchard from1964 until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church and helped with the landscaping at the church and any other jobs he was asked to help out with.
Jose enjoyed travelling back to Portugal and the USA to visit family and friends. He also liked gardening, making wine and going for coffee with friends.
Prayers will be recited at 6:00 pm Monday January 9, 2017 at the Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Chapel, Oliver, BC.
A funeral mass will be celebrated by Fr. Dave DeSouza at 10:30 am Tuesday January 10, 2017 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Osoyoos, BC. Interment and committal will follow at the Osoyoos Lakeview Cemetery. A reception in the church lower hall will followthe interment.
