Long-time Oliver resident Jose Loureiro passed away on Monday June 22, 2015 in Kelowna while surrounded by his family, at the age of 97 years.
He is lovingly remembered by his children: Jose (Aldina), Lourdes (John), Joaquim (Oliveria), and Tony. He is also survived by his grandchildren Melissa, Chris, Jennifer, Nelson, Denis, Stacey, and Matthew, and by seven great-grandchildren: Ethan, Dominic, Nathan, Jordan, Makayla, Matias, and Jacob. Jose was predeceased by his wife Aurilia Geraldes Loureiro, his brothers in Portugal Antonio and Alfredo Loureiro, and his sister Maria Piedade Barata.
Jose was born in Casegas, Portugal in 1918. Before immigrating to Canada, Jose worked in the mining industries in Portugal and Spain. Moving to Canada in 1959, Jose worked in area orchards, including 25 years for the Thorp family. In his final days, Jose moved into hospice care in Kelowna.
Prayers will be said on Sunday June 28 at 7:00 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church. A funeral mass will take place on Monday June 29 at 10:00 a.m., Fr. Neil Lustado presiding. Burial will follow at the Oliver Municipal Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Central Okanagan Hospice House, 2035 Ethel Street, Kelowna, BC V1Y 2Z6 would be much appreciated.
