Tribute
On Wednesday February 5, 2014, Mr. Jose Pereira Martins of Osoyoos passed away surrounded by family at Mariposa Gardens at the age of 85 years.
He was predeceased by his wife Maria in 2013, and siblings Alfred, Carlos, Albert, Celeste and Izaura.
Jose will be fondly remembered his loving family including son Joaquim “Jack” (Amelia) Martins; daughter Amelia (Victor) Santos; grandchildren Michelle (Chad), Nina (Derek), Cindy (Adrian) and Jennifer (Paul); great-grandchildren Markus, Liam, Caleb, Jace, Landon, Brooklynn, Chloe and Sophie as well as many extended family and friends.
Jose loved travelling back to Portugal, taking bus trips to Reno, fishing, hunting, gardening and camping. Jose was an orchardist, dedicated husband, father; grandfather and great-grandfather. Jose immigrated to Canada in 1957 and settled in Osoyoos later that year. He was a proud member of the Portuguese Canadian Cultural Society as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus for many years.
Prayers will be recited at 7:30 P.M. Sunday February 9, 2014 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be celebrated by Fr. Dave DeSouza at 10:30 A.M. Monday February 10, 2014 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Osoyoos, BC. Interment and committal will follow at the Osoyoos Lakeview Cemetery. A reception hosted by the CWL in the church lower hall following the interment.
