Josias Engel
January 13, 1935 – January 31, 2026

Josias Engel passed away peacefully in his sleep, beside his beloved wife of 64 years, Olga, in the home he built.

Born and raised in Langwies, Graubünden, Switzerland, Josias trained as a metal worker and later became a ski instructor. In Davos, he met Olga Ambühl, whom he married on November 3, 1962. Together they built a life grounded in hard work, craftsmanship, and family.

Josias and Olga owned and operated a hotel and restaurant for decades, building the business side by side while raising their four children. An avid hunter, woodworker, and builder, Josias had a lifelong love of working with his hands and creating lasting things.

In 1989, after selling their hotel and restaurant, Josias and Olga moved to their dream property in British Columbia, Canada — the historic Wagon Wheel Ranch. They were warmly welcomed by the community and quickly made it their home. There, Josias once again put his skills to work, building their family home with care and pride.

He was predeceased by his son, Josias; by his parents, Anton and Anna (née Jäger) Engel; and by three brothers and four sisters. Anton and Anna had nine children in total. He is survived by his sisters Kathi.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Olga, his children Christiana and Max with Eric and Marco, Theo, and Annina and Mike with Jennifer, Marshall and Ethan, and many friends in Switzerland and Canada.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring at the farm.

Josias will be remembered for his strong work ethic, love of building, connection to the land, and deep devotion to his family.
