Jytte (Margit) Hunt

March 11, 1941 - November 17, 2024

Tribute

Jytte (Margit) was born in German occupied Copenhagen on March 11, 1941. Following the war, her family moved to Rønde on the Danish mainland where they established a green-grocer, flower shop, and gardens.

Margit immigrated to Canada in 1960 settling in Calgary. She married Jens Rasmussen in 1961 and divorced in 1976. They had two children, Liza Karen and Kenneth Patrick. Margit went to work at the Calgary Inn, now called the Westin where she met her second husband, William (Bill) Hunt. They got married on December 26, 1976. After William’s retirement in 2002, they decided to move to the beautiful town of Osoyoos, BC.

Margit was passionate about flowers and plants, and she was able to return to her roots and train as a florist. Margit worked in numerous flower shops in both Calgary and Osoyoos, doing what she loved until she retired. Margit had a special place in her heart for her beloved dog Tami, her closest friends, and all her family.

Margit is survived by her husband William, her daughter Liza (Ole), her son Ken (Bahar) and her four granddaughters, Ariane, Viveka (Cory), Melisa, and Selena.

There will be no formal service as per Margit’s request. In lieu of gifts, please honour her by purchasing a beautiful floral arrangement for someone you love.

Relation: a Family Friend

Margit was my Special Friend.  We met in 1976, 48 years ago.  I have many cherished memories over those years.  We had numerous reciprocating dinners with stimulating conversations.  As our children were born in 1977, 1982 & 1983, Margit was the first one to send us beautiful floral bouquets to celebrate the birth of our children.
She was a constant and faithful friend, who we visited at the flower shops, met for coffee, and shopped with.  We had weekends in Osoyoos at the Sailing Regatta’s and Thanksgiving dinners at Christina Lake following the sailing competitions.
We carried on a productive friendship supporting each other in many varied ways.  Margit attended our children’s birthday 🎂 parties and other events with our kids affectionately calling her, Aunty Margit.    Margit was more like family to us, visiting us at Christina Lake in the summers.  In Calgary, before too much development, we could view each other’s homes in Edgemont.  When we were both living in Calgary from 1987 and on, we had additional opportunities to be together informally as friends.  Margit always shared most generously the productive fruits of her garden.   I recall how the baskets of Margit’s cherry tomatoes would disappear when left on the island at our home.   Margit was always so kind and generous to our family.
We went to the Danish Canadian Club with Margit and Bill on a number of occasions.  We also enjoyed Mozart on the Mountain, engaging in numerous events together.
We made regular visits from Christina Lake to Osoyoos, when Margit moved there in 1992.   Margit and Bill also welcomed our grandchildren, Hartley and Mikennah to their home and took them to the cherry orchards nearby.   I had Margit’s knowledgeable assistance when choosing potted plants for Christina Lake at the nurseries in Osoyoos.
My last visit to see Margit was August 15, 2024, little did I know that would be my last visit as it was just 3 months before her passing away, on November 17th.  Margit was a Very Special Friend that I had the privilege of knowing.  She enhanced my Life’s Journey.  She is GREATLY missed.   I’m HONOURED that I could call Margit, my True and Loving Friend.
