Karen Thompson

July 23, 1960 - November 17, 2023

Tribute

Karen Jane Thompson, age 63, of Oliver, BC, passed away suddenly at her home on November 17, 2023.

She grew up in Toronto, Hamilton, Renfrew and Mississauga. After graduating with a University of Windsor nursing degree she went on to a 34 year career at major hospitals in the Toronto core. Karen was a hard working and dedicated health care professional who amongst other recognitions was awarded a commendation for her activities during the 2003 SARS outbreak in Toronto.

Upon retirement, Karen made the courageous and wise decision to leave her Toronto home behind and move to Oliver. Karen was very proud of her beautiful new home and thrived in the spectacular scenery and lifestyle.  She loved to garden and made many new friends in the Gallagher Lake Frontage community while doting on her cats Finnegan and Spunky.

Generous, compassionate, listener, great smile, lovely lady are words friends and family have used to describe this gentle soul who graced so many with her presence.

Karen is survived by her brothers, John (Bonnie) Thompson of Kitchener, ON and Peter (Susan) of Oliver, BC. She is greatly missed by her nephews, Kyle Thompson of Kamloops, and Scott Thompson (Jenn) of Ingersoll as well as nieces, Kayla Brailsford-Thompson (Tom) of Nottingham, UK and Courtenay Stern (Dan) of Ottawa. She will be fondly remembered by great-nephew, James and great-niece, Emma of Ottawa.

Donations in memory of Karen can be made to the Canadian Red Cross.

At the request of Karen there is no funeral service or memorial. Cremation has taken place.

The family of Karen wish to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Dixon, attending Paramedics Ron and Matt, Constable Steve Martindale of the RCMP, Grant Steveley of the Oliver Fire Department, Shawna from the BC Coroners Office, Kaila, Cory and all the staff at Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Service for their professionalism, compassion and follow-up.
