Tribute

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our much loved mother and grandmother Katarina Kocen of Osoyoos at the age of 82 years on February 2, 2011. Mom passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side at home.
Predeceased by; Mother Hedviga Zizek; Husband Jozef Kocen 1967 and Son Dusan Kocen 1992. Survived by; Daughters Slavica (Joe) and Josephine (Murray); Grandchildren, David (Michelle), Kevin (Marie), Candace (Lorne), Nicole (Geoff), Leah (Ben); Great Grandchildren, Caitlyn, Andrew, Jamie, Grace, and Colton.
Born in Donja Bistrica Yugoslavia. Mom and Dad immigrated to Canada in 1952 with their infant son Dusan. They made their way across Canada and settled in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island. They worked hard clearing land and building homes for many years. After dads passing we moved to the Okanagan and mom took on another hard working position as an orchardist. Mom loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and most of all gardening. The backyard was filled with a variety of vegetables and fruit which she loved to share with everyone. She also had a passion for flowers which surrounded her home with a beautiful array of colors. Mom truly had a green thumb, everything she planted was lush and vibrant. Her other passion was singing and dancing, she enjoyed gathering with family and friends.

Prayers will be recited by Fr. Rex Velmonte at 7:00 P.M Monday February 7, 2011 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Osoyoos, BC. A funeral mass will be celebrated by Fr. Walter Doherty at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday February 8, 2011 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Interment and committal will follow at the Osoyoos Lakeview Cemetery. A reception in the church lower hall will be hosted by the CWL following the interment.
