Tribute

On Friday, January 6, 2017, Mrs. Katherine (Kay) Chobotar of Osoyoos passed away peacefully at Mariposa Gardens at the age of 97 years.

She was predeceased by her parents George and Domnica Shippit; her brothers John, Bill, Morris and Nick; her sister Mary and her beloved husband William (Bill) Chobotar.

Kay will be fondly remembered by her loving family including her children Carrie (Darryl) Hamm, Allan (Sandi), and Dale (Karen); grandchildren Peter (Sandy) Hamm, Chad Chobotar, Wendy (Kevin) Duggan, Amanda (Todd) Farrell, Sarah (Chris) Browning, Nicole Chobotar and Devin Chobotar; great-grandchildren Jessica and Emily Farrell, Ryan and Katie Hamm, West Chobotar and Alexi Browning as well as her brothers Matt, Ed and Mike.

Kay was born in Sundown, Manitoba and moved to Osoyoos in 1937 with her family. She was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion and volunteered for many years at the United Church, Valley Congregational Christian Church and the Legion. Kay was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She and her husband Bill were dedicated orchardists and community members. Bill and Kay played host and hostess to many family and friends on their farm over the years. Kay was an amazing cook who was most well known for her unforgettable perogies and cabbage rolls. She will be forever remembered by friends and family as a kind, strong and loving individual.

Donations are gratefully accepted for the Canadian Cancer Society.

A celebration of Kay’s life will be held at a later date.
