Kathleen Margaret Champ, age 87, born on December 3, 1930 in Newcastle-under-Lyme, England and passed away peacefully on March 27, 2018 at Sunnybank Centre, Oliver, after struggling with Alzheimer’s for a number of years.
Kathleen was predeceased by her husband, Edward, in 1984. Kathleen was the youngest and last remaining sibling in her family, and was predeceased by sisters Joan (Ken) France; Sylvia (Norman) Nicholls; Elizabeth (Gerard) George, (Staffordshire, England); Stanley Cashmore (Australia); Reg Cashmore (Staffordshire, England);
Kathleen was also predeceased by her longtime companion & partner Fred Silver in 2009.
Kathleen is survived by her daughter, Susan (Ken) Huffman, Oliver, BC and nephew Stephen (Angela) Nicholls and their two daughters, Lisa & Sarah, Staffordshire, England.
Kathleen, Edward & their young daughter, Susan moved to Port Coquitlam, BC from England in 1967 to start a new & exciting life in Canada. Kathleen soon owned a local shoe store in Port Coquitlam and enjoyed being part of the business community.
She liked to travel and returned to England several times for visits and family weddings. She also travelled to Italy & Russia, and more recently to Hawaii several times with her daughter. Kathleen & Fred enjoyed road trips, travelling through Nevada & California to enjoy the sunshine of Palm Springs.
In her late 70’s, Kathleen did a lot of volunteer work with SenDial (a Thrifty Foods program to assist in grocery shopping for shut-in Seniors) and also at Dufferin Care Centre in Coquitlam.
The family would like to send a huge thank you to Sunnybank Centre in Oliver for their wonderful care & compassion given to Kathleen, especially in the days leading up to her death.
A small, private service and interment will be held at the Port Coquitlam Cemetery in May.
Donations in memory of Kathleen may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC.
