Kathleen (Kay) Ritchie
August 28, 1925 - June 13, 2018
Tribute
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Kathleen (Kay) Ritchie.
She is survived by her husband Dr. Robert (Bob) Ritchie; her brother Jack Newman and his wife Pearl; sister June McMillan and her husband Don; sister Gladys Goebel and her husband Harvey as well as a large extended family across Canada and the U.K.
Predeceased by her parents, Dorothea and Benjamin Newman; her sister Blanche and her husband Charlie Brochu.
Kay was born in Kindersley, SK. Farming in Saskatchewan in the 1930’s was difficult. Her Dad’s widowed aunt, Jessie McGrew needed help on her farm and in 1936 the family moved to Fort Vermilion, Alberta – a remote northern community. Schooling was a problem and Kay moved to Edmonton to finish high school. She then went into nursing and was an R.N. graduate of the School of Nursing, University of Alberta. She worked in hospitals for a few years all the time taking courses pertaining to her career. For 15 years she was matron of the Kindersley Hospital, Sask. where she met Dr. Ritchie. They were married in Edmonton Sept. 19, 1968 and early in 1969 they moved to Osoyoos where Dr. Ritchie began his new practice. Kay was very happy in Osoyoos. She attended St. Christopher’s Anglican church, belonged to a book club, played bridge, volunteered, loved to entertain and did a lot of canning. They spent 25 winters in Hemet, California and travelled to many countries around the world.
Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
A memorial service will be held at St. Christopher Anglican Church, 7200 – 87 St. Osoyoos, BC at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday June 26, 2018.
