Tribute
Kenneth William Harman
1937 – 2018
As Ken writes in his memoirs,
“My life can be best described as a wanderer, moving through a series of doors – farm kid-cowboy-heavy equipment operator-Canadian Navy-logger/truck driver- farmer/rancher/amateur rodeo contestant-government employee/pilot-woodlands contractor-commercial pilot-semi-retired bush pilot-retirement hobby, pickin’n’singin’ bluegrass music, traveling with my lil’darling.”
K.W. Harman began his wandering on this earth on May 29, 1937 in Paynton, Saskatchewan. He came to journey’s end when he went through that final door on January 23, 2018 in Oliver, British Columbia – into a place of rest and peace with Jesus. His earthly wanders may have ended but his spirit lives on. His memory lives in the hearts of his wife, Joy, his five children, Kathy (Eric), Kendi, Terri (Terry), Sherron (Cliff) and Shaun (Donna ), his 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, his only sister Beverly (Don) and numerous extended family and many friends. It also lives on in the stories we tell and in the songs we sing for him.
The family extends an invitation to all who knew Ken to celebrate his life through sharing stories and music (bring an instrument if so inclined):

From: Laurie & Lois Davison
Relation: Ken was a friend when he lived in Birtle, Manitoba.
We enjoyed getting to know Ken and Joy when they lived in Birtle. Ken was a special friend during his time here. He was thought of often with fondness. Laurie enjoyed working with him during the pasture pickin’ weekends and other activities. Rest in peace until we meet again.
From: Joan Bidyk
Relation: He was my uncle
Dear Joy and Family….. Words cannot express how sad I was to hear of Ken’s passing. He was a great guy and I know your hearts are filled with sorrow now. But try to find comfort in remembering all the good times and the joy he brought to you. I send my love and prayers to you all. What a great way to write up his obituary, I loved it.

Our deepest condolences to Joy and family. We will always be grateful and blessed for the cowboy who moved to Birtle with instrument(s) in hand and who filled Birtle and area with music and picking by establishing the Pasture Pickin’ Jamboree event.

It is with Great Sadness we hear of the passing of our Dad’s (Cliff Asselstine) dear friend Ken. As a family we appreciate the many hours that Dad spent playing music with Ken. The music gave Dad a purpose again after Mom got sick and we thank Ken for renewing his interest.
I am sure they have a little blue grass band going as we speak.
