Tribute

On November 3, 2018; Ken passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and love; he was 87 years young.

He was predeceased by his parents Ray and Jean Schwager and his sister Orla Kutas.

Ken is survived by his beautiful wife, Betty; his children Debbie (Amadeu), Ray (Karen), and Jenny (John).  His grandchildren:  Terry (Erin), Derek (Trish), Lane (Jon), Amanda (Silas) and Dustin; and nine great-grandchildren.

Ken was born on September 28, 1931 in Moose Jaw, SK and grew up on the family farm in Southern Saskatchewan. As a young man, Ken made to way to BC to work; it was in here he met and married Betty. They settled in Keremeos where they purchased a small farm and raised their three children. Ken worked at Interior Contracting for over 25 years as a heavy equipment operator. During his retirement Ken and Betty travelled all over Western Canada, even making their way to the Arctic Circle.  For almost four decades Ken snowmobiled; he helped start the Similkameen Snowmobile Club.  He was an excellent billiards player at the local Legion and he loved to play Texas Hold’em.

A celebration of Ken’s Life will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Keremeos Victory Hall on Main Street.

We would like to thank Dr. Surkan and his staff, Kelly and Lisa; and the support staff at The Hamlets (Thank you Victoria, Sylvia and Sumeet).

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ken’s name can be made to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation.

I wish to convey my sincerest condolences to Ken’s wife Betty and her extended family.

i have such fond memories of Betty and Ken on their farm in Keremeos where they became Rose and Doug’s best friends. Keen was such a salt of the earth guy, a truly good person to all his friends and family.

He will be deeply missed and I a sorry not to be able to attend his service.
