Leslie Alex Jones
February 26, 1929 - June 22, 2010
Tribute
On Tuesday June 22, 2010, Mr. Leslie Alexander (Les to some, Alex to others) Jones of Osoyoos passed away surrounded by family at the South Okanagan General Hospital at the age of 81 years.
He was predeceased by his parents and older sisters Myrtle and Bertha.
Alex will be fondly remembered by his loving family including wife of 60 years Bernice Margaret; son Doug Jones; daughter Lynda (Gerald) Dennill; son Ken (Debbie) Jones; daughter Marie; grandchildren Dan (Heidi), Lori, Tracy (Trevor), Brad, Katlin and Morgan; great-grandchildren Alex, Jordan, Kevin, Demara, Roman, Sharman; great-great-grandchild Ava as well as many extended family and friends.
Over the years Alex worked for the CPR, he worked road construction as a cat operator and enjoyed a 37 year long career with Pope & Talbot as a millwright. Alex retired in 1989 to a relaxing life of gardening (he was the zucca melon bandit), traveling and spending time loving his family and friends.
He loved to travel with his wife and visited such places as Reno, Las Vegas, Alaska, Hawaii, Belize, Mexico and re-did their wedding vows in 1978 on a Caribbean cruise. Alex was a longstanding AA member of 36 years. He was a supporting member and leader, reaching out and helping many people make great change in their lives. He had a soft and caring heart for everyone and everything.
Alex had many hobbies and expressed great creativity. He loved woodworking, creating special toys for his grandchildren and made a business of sandblasting wooden signs. Alex gave a new meaning to recycling with his ironwork art constructed from rescued shovels, rakes and other treasures. Alex also loved experimenting with new recipes, he loved animals and was an avid hunter and fisherman while sharing these passions with his family. He also loved games and family gatherings which were filled with hours of playing and laughing together. He will be remembered as colourful and happy, bringing joy to all who knew him.
