Lorraine Cotton
November 25, 1923 - March 13, 2013
Tribute
Born in Calgary, the youngest of five children, Lorraine moved to Victoria, BC to enter nurses’ training at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. Nursing there during WW II she met and married Tom Gough, a musician who played piano in a band at the Empress Hotel; their son, Tom, also became a musician and lives in Victoria. After her husband’s death Lorraine travelled to England and France, then resumed nursing at the Jubilee. In 1974 with her second husband, the Victoria pharmacist Wilf Cotton, Lorraine moved to Oliver, BC to enjoy the sun and landscape they loved. During her years in Oliver Lorraine was an active member of the Naturalists, going on many outings with her friend Betty and monitoring a bluebird trail; she was also a keen member of the Fairview Golf Club, the Oliver Seniors, and St. Edward’s Anglican Church.
She loved reading, playing her piano and living a quiet life enjoying her friends and keeping in touch with her far-flung family members.
Lorraine’s humour, intelligence and caring spirit will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her, and especially by her son Tom Gough (Glenda), grandchildren Devin and Tiffany; her step-children Wilf and Dick Cotton (Donna), and Joanne Cathrea (Jim) and their families, and her eight nieces and nephews, who thought the world of her.
Funeral service for Lorraine will be held at St. Edward’s Anglican Church at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 16, 2013.

To Lorraines family, Never have I met a more compassionate, friendly woman. She was my neighbor when Wilf passed. We had such goodtimes in our little subdivision.We sure missed her when she moved to island,and cheered her when she returned to Oliver.I miss you already. Joan and Blaine Nunweiler

The members and staff at Fairview Mountain always looked forward to seeing Lorraine and Irene as they played their 9 holes of golf and enjoyed a cup of tea in the clubhouse. Lorraine was a great story teller of years gone by and the golf course “way back when”. It was sad when the girls could no longer play, but Lorraine would come up and enjoy her beverage while looking out over the course and the Oliver valley. Rest in peace Lorraine, you had a wonderful life with many friends who will miss you.
