Louise Abraham

May 8, 1927 - June 12, 2018

Tribute

Louise passed away peacefully at her home in Maple Ridge on June 8, 2018.  Born in Wood Mountain, Saskatchewan on May 8, 1927, daughter of James Alvin Landers and Sadie Howe. During her childhood, Louise fondly remembers riding her horse “Queenie” to Plessis School near Fir Mountain, Saskatchewan, with brothers and sisters Maurice, Lorene, Jim, Bill, Joyce and Gloria.  While the boys were off to war, Louise helped her dad on the farm until 1944 when the Lander’s family decided move to Salmon Arm.  After graduating from high school, Louise attended nursing school at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1950.  During a Christmas break from nursing school, she met Eric August Abraham at a Canoe Dance. They were married in 1951 and moved to Ontario, where they lived in Scarborough for 13 years and had four children.  In 1967, Eric and Louise picked up their young family and moved back to British Columbia to help out with her aging parents and eventually settled onto the Landers orchard, next to Road 16, south of Oliver.  Louise started work at the old St. Martin’s Hospital in Oliver, which later became the newly built South Okanagan General Hospital, until her retirement.  She enjoyed making wine, sewing, solving crossword puzzles, watching hockey and was often found out in the orchard with Eric.  Louise had a wonderful and peaceful retirement with Eric on the orchard until 2002 when the love-of-her life suddenly passed away. She then moved to Maple Ridge where she could spend the remainder of her retirement close to family.  Louise is survived by her sister Gloria Barber (Roland); her children: Sandra, Brian (Cindy), Mark (Nicole) and Ron (Delene); and by her grandchildren: Jeremy (Leah), Matthew (Karen), David, Austin (Karly), Arissa, Lucas (Reka) and Cole; and by her great grandchildren Emily, Colby, Casey, Jaxon, and Charlotte.  A small service will be held at the Oliver Cemetery on Saturday July 28 at 1:30pm.
