Tribute

It is with sadness we announce that on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, our brother, Marcel Girard, passed away at Haven Hill Retirement Centre in Penticton, B.C. at the age of 79 years.

Marcel is predeceased by his father, Robert (1987), his mother, Yvonne (2019), and his sister Louise (2018)
He is survived by his sisters, Jeannette Vegt (Jack), Anita Miotto, Suzanne Watson (Andy) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he moved to BC with his family a few years later. Over the years Marcel lived in Coquitlam, Oliver, Summerland, and Penticton. During his early years in Oliver, he spent many hours riding his bike all over town, mowing lawns, picking fruit, and working at the Oliver Chronicle. He loved to hook rugs, play Bingo and visit! Marcel was a big fan of The Price is Right & loved watching Western TV shows and movies. He always looked forward to his car trips with Ken to see past towns he had lived in and all the changes. In his last few years, life was simpler. He enjoyed sharing time with a few special people, listening to a book being read, sitting quietly enjoying the flowers and deer, or reminiscing about the past years.

A special thank you to Patti at Haven Hill, who always had time to ensure he was doing ok. Her genuine smile was an important part of Marcel’s day. Some other very special people in Marcel’s life were Ken Anderson & Lauren Hawke, Colleen & Garnet Anderson. We have so much gratitude for the love, kindness, and care they showed Marcel to ensure he was always comfortable. In the last couple of years, Colleen became one of Marcel’s very closest friends. They shared many hours together reading stories and having long conversations about life.

Marcel will be missed by many and is now at peace.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 27, 2023 at Park Drive Church followed by a graveside urn interment and committal at the Oliver Municipal Cemetery. A reception will follow at Park Drive Church.
