Margaret (Marge) Hagel

July 19, 1945 - June 9, 2022

Tribute

Margaret “Marge” Rose Hagel passed away suddenly on June 9th, 2022 at the Kelowna General Hospital at the age of 76 years.

She was predeceased by her parents; Ruth and Ted Mikolas and brother; David Mikolas.

Marge will be fondly remembered by her loving husband of 57 years; George Hagel, daughter; Tammy (Hagel) Vesper (husband Cory), son; Mike Hagel (Annina), grandchildren; Hannah, Alex (Logan Clarke), Bailey, Melissa, Jennifer, Marshall and Ethan, and great-granddaughter, Codi. She is also survived by siblings; Alice Hewitt, Ken Mikolas, Shiela Lange, Terry Culpepper and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Marge worked as a Legal Secretary in Calgary before becoming the secretary for the family’s own company in Oliver, “Oliver Solar Electric.” Aside from her professional work, Margaret was an avid volunteer in her community. She sat on the board for the Oliver Credit Union, was a “Tawny Owl” for the local Brownies and helped out with the Oliver Skating Club. When Oliver hosted the BC Winter Games, Marge was happy to jump on board and be a hostess.

Faith was very important to Marge. She was proud to have been baptized, confirmed and married in the same Lutheran congregation. She was an active member in the Lutheran Ladies Aide, helping out wherever needed.

One of Marge greatest passions was sewing; she was an amazing Seamstress. She sewed Tammy’s grad dress, her wedding dress, 5 bridesmaid dresses and 2 flower girl dresses! The proud grandma also loved to sew many matching dresses for her grand-daughters. Recently, Marge helped sew 100’s of quilts for children around the world with her Lutheran Ladies Quilting group.

A private family graveside service will be held at the Oliver Municipal Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday June 23, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran Church followed by a time of fellowship in the church reception hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations graciously accepted for the Alzheimer’s Society of BC.

George and family, we were so very sad to hear of Marge’s passing. Such a wonderful and beautiful lady. We knew her mainly through church and quilting. She was always so grateful for all the free materials we received for quilting from different outlets. She many times commented on how it is costing us nothing to do such a good work for the 3rd world countries. We worked together for many years and made hundreds of quilts. She was such a great volunteer also in other areas. We have lost a terrific gal! Our prayers and sympathies to all of you

So sorry to hear of the family’s loss. We met at the Oliver Curling Club where she and George were longtime members. She will be missed by many in the Oliver community.

From: Ruth Knippelberg
Relation: Longtime friend.

Marge was always such a hard worker and so good at all she put her hand at. I picked fruit on the Mikolas farm when Marge was very young and even then she worked conscientiously and always pulled more than her own weight. I always admired her. She was a great lady and now sings with the heavenly choir. God comfort you with His peace and love.
