Tribute
Sadly, on Wednesday March 8, 2017, Maria Do Ceu Cardoso passed away at home with family by her side at the age of 84 years.
She was predeceased by her mother Mariana; sister Maria and brothers Armando, Jose, Raphael and Antonino.
Maria will be remembered by her loving family including husband Alvaro of 62 years; sons Jose (Beth) and David; grandchildren Crystal (James), Amanda (Marton) and Matthew (Montana); great-grandchildren Alexandria and Eason as well as many extended family and friends.
Maria immigrated to BC in 1958 from Flores, Azores, Portugal. Upon raising her children, she began a career with CP Air in Richmond, BC. In 1973, Maria and Alvaro moved to the Okanagan to run the family orchard. She took great joy in tending to her animals and selling fruit to customers.
Maria was very skilled in home crafts like embroidery, crochet and quilting. Her handy work was often given to charitable causes and as gifts to friends and family.
Butchart Gardens in Victoria was her favourite place to visit. She also loved her trips to Rhode Island and California to see friends and family especially the trip to Disneyland with her grandchildren when she retired.
In her golden years, she enjoyed tending to her flowers, walks on the Pioneer walkway and being in her kitchen.
Maria Do Ceu was a selfless person putting family first, she was an excellent host to visiting friends and family. She took pride in sending photographs and greeting cards to everyone close to her.
She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
Prayers will be held at 7:30 P.M. March 17, 2017 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Osoyoos, BC
A funeral mass will be celebrated by Fr. Dave DeSouza at 10:30 A.M. Saturday March 18, 2017 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Interment and committal will follow at the Osoyoos Lakeview Cemetery. A reception hosted by the CWL in the church lower hall will follow the interment.
Donations are gratefully accepted for the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Relation: She is my Godmother
My Godmother cared for me often when I was a young child & I have many wonderful childhood memories of her gentle, kind and loving ways. My daughters Serena & Vanessa grew up visiting our families and they loved going to visit Madrinha & Uncle Alvaro’s house.
