Tribute
Maria Da Conceicao Martins Goncalves passed peacefully on Saturday March 8th 2014 at the Southern Okanagan General Hospital. She was born in December of 1918 in Ourondo Portugal. She was predeceased by her parents Flamina Martins & Abilio Pires; her devoted husband Joao Goncalves and siblings Jose Martins Pires and Amelia Martins Pires.
She is survived by her loving family, sister, Lzilda Ferreira of Montreal; her children Jose (Maria-Jose) Goncalves, Mirita (Alfredo) Costa, Laurentina (Rogerio) Martins, Floriano Goncalves, Raul (Susana) Goncalves and Fernando (Linda) Goncalves; grandchildren Isabel (Paul), Micheal (Elise), Cathy (Damian), Glen (Christine), Denny (Tanya), Liza, Ryan (Shelby), Jesse (Megan), Andrew and Scott; great-grandchildren Cody, Savannah, Sierra, Brayden, Toren, Tenley, Aliyah and one on the way as well as many nieces, nephews & cousins.
Maria was an incredibly beautiful, angelic, spiritual, strong, loving individual who was determined to help and feed everyone. She enjoyed her family first and foremost and in her spare time she loved gardening, crocheting, hockey and wheel of fortune. Maria was one of a kind, and is missed by us all, she will live on in our hearts forever more!
A huge thank you to the staff at Mariposa Gardens, the staff at SOGH, her favorite doctor, Dr. Tarr, Mike Thomas and the Town of Osoyoos cemetery work crew as well as Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Service.

Prayers were recited at 7:30 P.M. Sunday March 9, 2014 at the Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Chapel. A funeral mass was celebrated by Fr. Dave DeSouza at 10:30 A.M. Monday March 10, 2014 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Interment and committal followed at the Osoyoos Lakeview Cemetery. Following the interment a reception was held at the Osoyoos Portuguese Cultural Centre.
