Maria (Mary) Gibbins

Tribute
On Tuesday November 7, 2017, Mrs. Maria Adrianna Gibbins (nee Van Aert) of Osoyoos passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a long illness at Mariposa Gardens at the age of 81 years.
She was predeceased her parents Marinus & Catharina Van Aert; husband Ken Gibbins in 1975; partner Art Taks; brothers Jake and Peter and sister Pat; nephews Chris and Ken; niece Lynn and her beloved dog Jessie.
Maria is survived by her children Jame Gibbins, Frank Gibbins and Karen (Dale) Chobotar; grandchildren Chrystle, Shupri, Cynthia, Evelyn, Sarah, Nicole and Devin; great-grandchildren Alexi, West and Asher as well as many extended family and friends.
Maria was born in Holland Jan 26, 1936, the fourth of sixteen children. She worked at Woodwards Dept. Store, on the food floor from 1976-1988 and had to work very hard after her husband Ken passed away in order to support her family.
She took many trips back to Holland to visit family. Maria was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Osoyoos and the Catholic Women’s League. Her flower garden was her pride and joy and loved spending time working it, her garden was admired by many. Maria loved to entertain friends and family loved cooking and baking, she was famous for her gingerbread men. She welcomed everybody to her home in Osoyoos.
The family would like to thank Dr. Tarr and the wonderful staff at Mariposa Gardens in Osoyoos for their wonderful care and compassion.
A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 12:00 P.M. at St Anne’s Catholic Church, Osoyoos, BC followed by a reception in the church lower hall.
