Mary Kehoe

June 26, 1921 - November 18, 2015

Tribute

Mary, born June 26th, 1921 passed away on November 18, 2015 at 94 years of age. She resided in her own home until her 90th year at which point she enjoyed a move to Heritage House assisted living facility.  Her final years were spent in Mariposa Gardens residential care facility.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Terence (Terry) Kehoe, her father Thomas Edwards,   her mother Florence Edwards and her son in law Ralph Oxtoby.

She is survived by her daughter Glinys Oxtoby of Innisfail, Alberta.

Mary began her life in Chadderton, Lancashire, England.  She attended St. Luke’s Elementary School until the age of 11. During this time, at the age of 9, she held the distinction of swimming a mile. The next level of education took place at North Chadderton Secondary School.  She attended Burroughs Business College, majoring in accounting and business machines.  Her business career started at Shaw’s Engineering and lasted for a period of 10 years.  She then progressed to Platt’s Engineering where heavy machines for the cotton mills were built.

On October 11, 1947 she married Terry, a union which lasted for 60 years, until his passing in November of 2007.  In June of 1950 her daughter Glinys was born, at which point she took a break from working until Glinys went to school.  She then was employed by VitaFoam, a foam mattress company.

In March of 1957 Terry loaded up Mary and Glinys on the Cunard lines and they emigrated to Canada.  In Manitoba, Mary worked for Joe Sector Ladies Apparel.  A move was made to Cape Breton Island  where Terry became a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Dog Section. Mary joined  Bank of Nova Scotia where she worked until they moved to  Ottawa, she was then  hired by Beaver Lumber Company.

In 1965 Mary and Terry were transferred to Innisfail, Alberta where they resided until July, 1978.

At this time Terry retired from the RCMP to become a private consultant travelling around Canada.  They made the move to Okanagan Falls and spent their time looking for the perfect home to spend their days.  Two years later they made the move to Oliver.

Mary and Terry spent many happy weekends touring in their motor home.  They also enjoyed visits to Europe and time spent enjoying the sun of Hawaii.

Mary was a proud lifetime member of the Eastern Star; she was involved in volunteer work at the Fairview Mountain Golf Club, St Edward's Anglican Church and on the board of Sunnybank Centre.

The memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Friday, November 27, 2015,  at St Edward’s Anglican Church, Oliver, BC with the Rev. Patrick Reid officiating.  A reception will follow in the church hall.
