Mary Marcino

Tribute
In the early minutes of Saturday, Feburary 25, 2012, Mary took Gods hand and walked home. Born in Grand Bay NFLD, Mary lived with her husband Peter in St Lawrence NFLD, where her three children were born. After her husband died, Mary moved out west and settled in the Yukon. She worked in the Whitehorse hospital as well as for the Anvil Mine Guest House in Faro. After she retired she moved to Edmonton to be with her sister Frieda and then to Osoyoos to be closer to her children. She was predeceased by her parents Sarah and Randell, her brothers Ernest, Jack and Randell Jr and her sisters Lil and Frieda. She leaves behind her sons Carl (Irene), Eric and her daughters Jeanette (Lana); her grandchildren Kim (Darren) and Peter; Tammy, Candy and Sandy; and her great grandchildren Jackson; and Skye, Melissa, Jessika, Sarah and Steve. A long time member of the CWL, she had many friends and was known by many in Osoyoos, Edmonton and Whitehorse. Mary enjoyed live, loved to laugh and was always up for an ‘adventure’. She loved to cook for her children, to celebrate with a ‘special coffee’ and to play crib. Visible in the community, Mary could be often seen – summer or winter – racing the streets of Osoyoos on her Scooter. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. A mass will be held in her honor at St Anne’s Catholic church on Thursday March 8th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in her name.

Mother Mary held a pivotal role in reconciling me with my natural father Stan Marcino, who predeceased his beloved wife in May of 1997. She always welcomed her three step-daughters, Pamela Desjardine (Illyeanna Wolfstorm), Janet Lockwood (Ron), and Michelle Desjardine Marcino (Charlie) with open arms and a warmer heart. She will be dearly missed, fondly remembered and honoured by this step-daughter and grandchild Tiffany Moser.

While I don’t remember meeting Grandma Mary when I was about two, her picture has always been in our home and mom talks fondly about her all the time. She was sad to be unable to attend any memorial and will be requesitioning a mass in her honour here in Victoria.
