Mary Moreau

November 9, 1921 - December 24, 2015

Tribute

Mary (Liebel) Ecker Moreau passed away peacefully, surrounded by family in the evening of December 24th at the age of 94.

Mary was born in Borislaw, Poland to John and Rosalia Liebel.  She was the third of 5 children.  The Liebel family emigrated to Canada when Mary was 7 years old and they settled in Loon Lake, Saskatchewan, where they homesteaded.  Mary married Robert George Ecker in 1942.  They relocated to Osoyoos in 1946 with their two children, Elaine and Ronald, where Robert started a machine shop.    In BC, they had 3 more children, Patricia, Joanne and Louise.  After Robert’s passing in 1963, Mary joined the “paid” work force, first at the Osoyoos Variety store and later at the Osoyoos Credit Union, quickly becoming office manager.  In 1978, she married Emile Moreau and retired from the Credit Union to enjoy many happy years, travelling, camping, fishing, singing with the Triple O’s, and visiting her large family.  After Emile’s passing in 2010, Mary lived quietly at White Sands and later, Mariposa Gardens, always with a steady stream of visitors, both family and friends.  Mary was predeceased by parents, John and Rosalia, husband Robert, sister, Ludwina, brothers Ed and John and husband, Emile.  She is survived by her five children: Elaine, Ron (Tisha) Ecker, Pat (Julian) Stodola, Joanne (Duane) Eek, Louise (Tom) Szalay, grandchildren: Nicole DeVon, Jon DeVon, Robert (Janelle) Gott, Carmel, Marcia & Sam Ecker, Leian (Peter) Bruno, Rob (Louise) Stodola, Nolan (Kendra) Eek, Kaylan (Jennifer) Eek, Travis Eek, Marina, Michael, Jordan and Joshua Szalay as well as 15 Great Grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the many dear friends and relatives that filled Mary’s life with love.  Also, thanks to Dr. Calder for his attentive care over many years, to St. Anne’s Catholic Church and CWL where she found great comfort and purpose, and especially to the staff at Mariposa Gardens who saw the beautiful, strong woman inside the frail shell and cared for her as one of their own.  In lieu of flowers, show kindness and generosity to others.

A funeral mass was celebrated by Fr. Neil Lustado at 1:00 P.M. St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Osoyoos.

Louise and family,
Our condolences to you and all your family. We did not know of your mom’s passing until I saw a photo of her reposted by Trish. It was then too late for us to attend the funeral although we were in Oliver. We hope the Christmas season brings some peace to this difficult time in your life.
