Michael Francis Douglas

January 12, 1952 - April 26, 2023

It is with deep sadness that the family of Michael Douglas announce his sudden passing on April 26 at home, under his admired walnut tree.

Michael is predeceased by his father John Douglas in 2001. He is survived by his mother, Helen Douglas, his sisters Shelah (Allen), Kenna (Terry) and brother, Greg (Bonnie) and his adored nieces and nephews. Mourning his loss are his son, Jesse (Vanessa) and granddaughter, Jonni, and his daughter, Crystal, and grandson, Felix. Among those who joined Mike on his life’s journey are his former partners, Sharon Lachowich and Penny Douglas.

Michael was born in 1952 and raised on the family orchard in Kelowna. He started out in agriculture and farmed for decades in Osoyoos. Then he chose another path working at the Sun Bowl Arena until his retirement in 2022.

Michael loved the outdoors and the natural world. Hunting and fishing where his passions. He enjoyed many hunting trips with family and friends and making sausages with his brother Greg. He enjoyed tending his yard, vegetable garden and fruit trees. For many years he was an almost daily visitor to his mother, tending her yard and making necessary repairs. Golfing, hockey playing, hockey coaching and woodworking were among his hobbies and skills.

He enjoyed the unfolding of every season, but especially loved summer swims, fly fishing and motorcycle trips. In recent years he hiked to and collected pictures from his game cameras, documenting the life patterns of deer, bears, cougars, wolves, moose and elk.

Michael was a kind and gentle man, well liked by so many. We will remember, with great love and respect, his calm and laid-back demeanour, his thoughtful nature and his sincere friendship.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Michael’s life at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 6 at the Sun Bowl Arena Mezzanine in Osoyoos.

Dear Helen, Shelah, Kenna & Greg – I’m sending Sincere Sympathies to all of you and all of the family for the suffering you must all be sharing with Mike’s passing. I didn’t know him well (Ted knew him better than me) but we have lost too many family members in the last few months, (Sandy last Fall, Ted in February & now Mike). Love to all of you, Phyllis Ziajka
