Nellie Servo

Tribute
After a long and courageous battle with heart disease, Nellie Servo passed away peacefully on October 12, at McKinney Place surrounded by her family.
Nellie was born on February 4, 1927 in Serbia. She was the oldest of four children. She had a lot of responsibility at an early age which provided her with the inner strength and determination that was evident throughout her life. Her family immigrated to Canada in 1956, and settled in Osoyoos. Although formally trained as a seamstress, she developed many skills and held a variety of jobs. Following retirement from the Fruit Co-op, she continued to care for her aging parents, a role she filled with love and dedication. She loved her family, and was always very interested and dedicated to the lives of her nieces and nephew, and their families.
She was predeceased by her parents, Anton and Julia, as well as her oldest brother Adam and niece Iris.
Nellie leaves her brother Peter (Helga) and sister Maria (Bruno); nephew Harry (Nancy), niece Monika (Harold), and their children Tom and Tanis and niece Romy (Darrell).
The family wants to thank Dr. L. Kane, the staff of South Okanagan General Hospital, and McKinney Place for their kind and considerate care. A funeral mass will be officiated by Fr. Dave De Souza at 10:00 A.M. Saturday October 20, 2012 St Anne’s Catholic Church.

Relation: Erna Falkenberg is my mom
I was sad to hear of Nellie passing, but am glad that she will be without pain now.
She was always such a good friend of my mom when we lived in Osoyoos and she always treated me like a loving aunt. She would be able to listen to my problems and help me sort through them.
she was such a good seamstress and we were so poor and she always would sew clothes for me that made me feel so much more confident.
She had a hard time to learn to drive her car with her good leg….I can remember some of the trials and tribulations and she overcame them all and ended up being a very good driver.
She would always be there to help if we needed her, and I remember the apple strudel!!! She had such gorgeous red peonies – there were so beautiful…..
I remember she had a TV before we did, and we would go there and watch some TV on a day on the weekend…..it was such a special time.
She lived so close to my school and I’d sometimes stop in and visit – she would always welcome me.
My mom loved her like a sister, and they were so very close.
i sincerely admired her strength and understanding.
