Nora June Greenwood

December 18, 1921 - January 2, 2017

Tribute

Nora June Greenwood passed away peacefully at Mariposa Gardens, Osoyoos, BC on Jan. 2, 2017, at the age of 95 years.

June was born in High Point, Saskatchewan, Dec. 18, 1921. She was predeceased by her parents, Leslie and Gertrude Giauque, and her husband John Eric Greenwood, d.1980. She was also predeceased by all of her siblings including Louis, Florence, Vernie and Don.

June is survived by her children, Beverley (Charles), Lynne (Don), Donna (Mike) and her grandchildren whom she loved dearly, John, Sandy, Carrie and Joy Ellen, Ricki, Robin and Mikki. She also has 7 great grandchildren whom she was delighted to have around.

June was born and grew up at her parents homestead, the Half Diamond F Ranch in the Coteau Hills of Saskatchewan. She was an avid horse lover and worked as a ranch hand alongside her father for many years. At the young age of 16, she told of feeding cattle, doing all the chores and shoveling snow for four days when her parents couldn’t get home through a snowstorm. That toughness carried her to Hamilton ON during WWII where she worked in a war plant. It was the beginning of a life always full of travel and adventure. In her early twenties, she lived in San Diego, CA and cared for her elderly grandmother, later she became an elevator operator at Vancouver General Hospital, and then helped her parents settle into retirement in Oliver, BC.

June and Jack brought up their children on Riverside Road, north of Oliver, BC. Jack worked construction and June in the Oliver Coop Packinghouse. Horses were a big part of her life and her children's lives. What a beautiful gift to us all. At the young age of nearly 80, she had the opportunity to ride round up with a ranch nearChesaw, WA. She surprised us all by bringing in the largest bunch of cows! Once a cowgirl, always a cowgirl. In retirement, June spent time with family and friends in Oroville, WA, Medicine Hat, AB, and Yuma, AZ. She loved to travel and enjoyed being adventurous and independent; a gypsy at heart. She spent many years documenting experiences about her life and love of animals. Her book is entitled “Life in the Saddle, Memoirsof a Prairie Cowgirl” and was published in 2009.

Rest in peace, our beautiful Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma. Ride on to pastures with green grass and rainbows. You leave a legacy of strength and passion for life. We are eternally grateful to have had you in our lives.

No formal funeral service by request.
