Norman Aasen
October 10, 1932 - September 23, 2013
Tribute
On Monday September 23, 2013, Mr. Norman George Aasen of Oliver passed away at the South Okanagan General Hospital at the age of 80 years.
Norm was born in Beechy, Saskatchewan on October 10, 1932. He spent his early working years in southern Saskatchewan working with building contractors. In 1950, Norm came to BC and started his mining career. He was involved with both underground and open pit rescue for many years. Norm captained a team in the first open pit mine rescue competition in Canada. During his working years in BC, Norm was a volunteer with the Provincial Emergency Program and the Gran Isle Fire Department.
In 1952, Norm married the love of his life Patricia Henriksen. In 1991, Norm and Pat moved to Oliver where they spent many joyful years of retirement travelling and camping.
Norm was creative and inventive and could accomplish anything he set his mind to. Many family members and friends have enjoyed gifts of Norm’s handi-work.
Norm lived his life with integrity and courage, enjoying his family and friends, golf, hunting, fishing, wood work, camping and travelling.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Pat; sons Rick, Lorraine, Arnie, and Glen (Monique); grandchildren Kristen (Jimmy), Kyla (Kyle), Chelsea (Blair), Jamie (Matt), Cole (Cassie) and Amy (Brad); great-grandchildren Kendle (Kristen/Jimmy), Ethan & Barrett (Chelsea/Blair) as well as many extended family and friends.
A private family gathering will be held.
