Patricia (Pat) Johnson

February 6, 1952 - November 15, 2023

Tribute

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Johnson on November 15, 2023 after a battle with cancer.  Pat was born in Vancouver, BC on February 6, 1952, to parents, Jean and Tony Mauro.  Pat is survived by her loving husband, Keith: brothers, David and Peter (Lynn); sister, Elaina (Fred); niece, Julia (Izaak) and nephew, James (Jennifer), as well as many loving friends and extended family.

Pat married Keith in 1979 and, after many years of living in different cities, they finally retired in 2006 to their forever home on Tuc El Nuit Lake in Oliver.  There they hosted many gatherings for family and friends.  Pat was known for her hospitality, sense of humour, computer literacy, amazing cooking skills and excellent writing.

The family would like to thank all those who sent messages of support and love over the past few weeks.  It meant a lot to Pat.

We would also like to thank the nurses and staff at the South Okanagan General Hospital and McKinney Place for their thoughtful care in Pat’s final days.

If you wish to make a donation in Pat’s honour, she was a big supporter of the BCSPCA.  A donation in her name to the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation: https://sosmedicalfoundation.com/  would also be welcome.

A small private service will be held for family and close friends.

All will be welcome to remember Pat at a celebration in April, 2024.

Condolences and tributes may be directed to the family by visiting www.nunes-pottinger.com

My dear Elaina:
I am so sorry for your big loss. From the bottom of my heart, I embrace you dearly and send you my deep and sincere condolence with Love and Friendship. Please extend it to Keith, Peter, and David.
I met Pat and Elaina in Mirtos Greece about 50 years ago and I learned how deep and meaningful their relationship was for each other. I think you were much more than sisters, I have admired you since.
I feel fortunate to have been in the same place at the same time with you both in December of 1973, I’m very grateful.
We shared Christmas in 1973 and, when I left after some tears of all, we said so long, didn’t say goodbye.
Who would have told us that after so many years we are still in contact. I am very impressed.
We really hope that soon you will be able to find consolation and resignation.
Sincerely: Felipe and Gabriela García Naranjo.

From: Marion Carras
Relation: Lifelong friend

I am truly grateful to have had such a wonderful dear lifelong friend. Pat was more like a sister to me. I miss her so much and Rick and I will keep her in our hearts forever. Memories of rigatoni nights, bocce bitch tournaments, talking on the phone until the wee hours, her amazing sense of humour, her brilliance, her ability to create questionable videos involving mussels, and our wonderful trips to Italy together. So many amazing memories. Rick and I are heartbroken for Keith. We send him our love and support. Our hearts are also with the Mauro family who have been such a huge part of our lives, Rest in peace dear friend. ❤️ Mare

From: Ronna Dick
Relation: Life long friend

We are truly heartbroken over the loss of our dear friend. Words can’t express the deep loss we all feel, including our girls , who also share so many special memories of Pat, her family and summers in Oliver. Not many people can claim beautiful friendships as long as ours. We went all through school together and worked, travelled and lived together. Sincere condolences go out to Keith and all the Mauro family.

Relation: 2nd cousin (Barb's daughter)

Thank you for the opportunity to watch the service online. I always enjoyed Pat’s warmth and wit, whether at Meatball Fest or Christmas Eve at Elaina’s. Enfolding Keith and family.

From: Erin MacKinnon
Relation: Pseudo niece? Will need to consult David.

Beautiful service. Thinking of you Uncle Keith and the Mauro family who have lost a beautiful soul in Auntie Pat. So many formative memories from my childhood have been in that house on the lake – Pat tending to the pasta on the kitchen stove (wine in hand) Chance (the dog) running about the house and Keith returning from a golf session, the smell of summer peaches.

Thank you Pat for bringing joy and colour to my childhood. Love Erin, Jim (husband) and Eden (daughter)

From: Janet Freeman
Relation: Cousin.

So nice to hear the stories about Pat. A big loss to the family and her many friends. She was such a warm and generous hostess whether in Houston or Oliver. Dave and I are looking forward to the Celebration of Life in April.
