Peter William Janzen
May 16, 1943 - August 1, 2012
Tribute
Peter William “Pete” Janzen peacefully went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on August 1, 2012 at the age of 69 years.
He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Elizabeth; his sisters Anne, Mary, Betty, Margaret and his brother John.
He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife Marlene; son Gordon (Rhonda), daughters Luwanda (Mark) Davies and Denise (Jeff) Crowley. Grandsons, Taylor, Halen, Rory and Seth. Granddaughters Zoe and Mya as well as his sisters Cae, Gertie and Agnes; brother Frank and brother-in-law Bill Sprong.
Over the years Pete worked for Trump Industries (accountant), Oliver Credit Union (assistant manager), Rapid Transfer (truck driver and equipment operator), as an orchardist,PJM Enterprises (construction) , Miller Trucking, Weyerhauser (equipment operator), Gerard’s Equipment (parts and sales), Reliable Trucking, Peters Bros. (machine operator) as well as school bus driver and maintenance man for School District # 53.
Pete enjoyed trips to Saskatchewan and Manitoba to visit family and friends. He finally had the trip of a lifetime and realized his dream of flying over the Grand Canyon by helicopter in 2006. He spent years as an Oliver volunteer fire fighter and was active in the Oliver Curling Club, Kinsmen Club and was a dedicated member of the Oliver Alliance Church.
Pete always loved life and all it had to offer! He loved the outdoors and spent countless hours just enjoying what he called ”Heaven on Earth”.
He had such a passion for helping others and could always be found lending a hand where needed, whether it be to a long time friend or someone he had just met.
A man of many talents, his true passion was for his family- especially his grandchildren! He was always excited to play and chase them around the yard, spray them with the hose, go to watch their football games and dance recitals or to just spend precious time with them- enjoying their company, all the while watching them with a huge smile on his face .
His entire life was devoted to his family. Nothing made him happier than when they were laughing and spending time together.
Pete was an exceptional husband, father and papa who could always be counted on and who took great pride in watching his family grow and flourish.
His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and all who loved and knew him.
A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday August 18th at 11:00 a.m. from the Oliver Alliance Church.

Dear Marlene, I am deeply saddened to hear that Pete had just died-all the years that I knew him, I found him to be an exceptionally friendly , caring indivdual, who would always have a joke, a slap on the back, or some good Christian thought about someone else- There are some people who are your friends forever and for me, Pete, was such a friend- never afraid to call things as they were, he was never unkind about it and for his honesty, his love and his work ethic he will always be remembered with deepest affection- well done Pete, you will be missed- love and God’s Blessing to all of the family…. Our thoughts are with you as you mourn the loss of an important member of your family. In reading the obituary, I start to realize how talented Pete was. Little wonder that he was such an asset to the school district, which was the capacity I knew him. No job was too small for Pete to attend to, whether plumbing or repairing stuff in my lab at Southern Okanagan. He was a great guy.
Denise, Jeff and Luwanda and Gordon, I am sure that you will carry on many of the lessons of life that he taught you.
Condolences to you all

Dear Marlene and family.
We are so sorry to hear of Peter’s death. The Willms family are thinking of you and your family, we wish we could drop by for a visit. I recall fondly the times we met you and Peter when we vacationed in Oliver. Peter loved his orchard and proudly showed us the peaches and cherries. Peter was my dad’s dear cousin. I remember my dad’s great pleasure the time Peter and Gertie, then living in Virden, stopped to vist us on the farm.

Dear Marlene and family, I just wanted to tell you how shocked and saddened we were to hear of your precious husband and father’s passing. No doubt this has been a very tough time for all of you. I vaguely remember when our family visited your family on a trip to BC when I was a little girl. And then you came to the prairies as well for visits and how pleased my parents and Granny Janzen were to see you! I know that all of your family was very dear to our Granny, and it seemed like quite often she would be corresponding with one of you …
